In the summer of 2025, I interned at Kubota Manufacturing of America. During my time I made various designs to assist Kubota's manufacturing line. The building I worked in specialized in residential lawnmowers. I made carts for paint burn-off, helped with takt time changes and equipment re-arrangement, learned about torque specifications and tool programming, as well as other small projects with the manufacturing engineering team.
My biggest project was designing a new transmission tray to accommodate new lawnmower models being introduced. The tray features laser cut steel and multiple locking and latching features to hold various shapes of transmissions. It also includes aluminum for weight reduction and UHMW interfaces to protect the outer shell of the transmission (3D prints used in prototype). The pictures below show the first iteration of the tray working with the older transmission models.
